The Newcastle United Blog | Bristol Rovers confirm signing Elliot Anderson on loan

Bristol Rovers have confirmed Elliot Anderson has joined them on loan for the remainder of the season. The League Two club are managed by former Magpie Joey Barton.

Anderson was denied a loan move last January but will now play first-team football. The local boy made his Newcastle United and Premier League debut at the start of last year.

He struggled with a hip injury during pre-season, missing the opening months of this campaign. Despite making the matchday squad a few times, the 19-year-old is yet to make another appearance for the hometown club.

Bristol Rovers currently sit 12th in League Two, but have been on a 6-game unbeaten streak since early December. Anderson will be mentored by Barton, who spent four seasons at St. James’ Park. The 39-year-old was appointed manager of Memorial Stadium in February last year.

Anderson joins Matt Bondswell, who moved to Shrewsbury from League One on loan earlier today. Joe White moved to Hartlepool from League Two a few days ago. Reports have it that Matty Longstaff will travel to Mansfield, where Kelland Watts spent time on loan a few years ago.
