‘SNL’ Weekend Update Says We’re Living In A ‘Mad Max’ Movie

Things are, to put it lightly, not so good right now! Safe and legal abortion is about to be eliminated. There is a shortage of infant formula. Gas prices have skyrocketed. Cryptocurrency crashed. And oh yes, there is still a pandemic. In this week’s Weekend Update section of SNLco-host Colin Jost pulled it all together to remind us that we’re living in perhaps one of the most entertaining and darkest blockbusters of recent years.

“Is it me or does every story this week feel like the opening voiceover of a madmax movie?” Jost asked the crowd. “It’s the year 2022. A virus is raging across the planet. Digital currency has collapsed. Babies have nothing to eat. men are willing to die for gasoline. And we suffer under the leadership of the one known only as Joe. (The latter sparked a Photoshopped image of Joe Biden with a doo-hickey in the face of Immortan Joe.)

Jost then focused on digital currency: “The entire crypto market has lost over a trillion dollars. But don’t worry. You can get that money back quickly as long as you’ve accumulated formula .

Michael Che, meanwhile, touched on some good news. “The Jan. 6 committee subpoenaed five sitting Republican congressmen after they refused to voluntarily testify,” he said. “Republican congressmen said, ‘You can’t force us to do anything, we’re not pregnant.'”

Che also took on one of the biggest companies in the world. “Amazon has announced that it will play employees who have to travel for abortions up to $4,000 in expenses each year,” he said. “The only catch is you have to do it on your eight-minute lunch break.”

The two also covered topics such as Kevin Spacey’s comeback movie, Ukraine winning Eurovision and last week’s Wordle accident. You can watch the segment in the videos above and below.
