New visitation restrictions have come into effect at the Royal Alexandra Hospital due to the prevalence of covid.
The hospital has temporarily returned to essential visits only in all acute care wards except maternity, gynecology and mental health.
The changes will take effect from 8 p.m. today (Wednesday 13 October) and will be in effect for three weeks, until Tuesday 2 November inclusive.
Health bosses made the decision because of the presence of covid, the continued prevalence of community cases, and to follow infection prevention and control procedures.
In the meantime, the situation will be monitored. The actions are part of a risk assessment approach to infection prevention and control across all NHS hospitals in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Anyone still planning to visit a board of health hospital is advised to do a lateral flow test first, and then do it twice a week while they are visiting.
Melanie McColgan, NHSGGC Director, Clyde Sector, said: âThis difficult but crucial decision was taken to help protect our patients, visitors and staff. We recognize that this will be difficult for our patients and their loved ones, and for that, we apologize. We are committed to monitoring the situation in order to be able to reintroduce visits to the acute services of the RAH as soon as it is possible in complete safety.
âFor those who are planning to visit a patient at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and are unsure which visiting guidelines apply, please call the service or visit our website where you can find more information.
“If you are planning to visit one of our hospitals, we strongly recommend that you undergo a voluntary lateral flow test beforehand and then do it twice a week while you are a visitor.”
