Kaley Cuoco’s next film sees her complete Penny’s final arc in The Big Bang Theory, which the CBS sitcom couldn’t fully explore.
Kaley Cuoco’s Latest Movie May Give Her The Chance To Fully Play Penny Finale The Big Bang Theory bow. It’s been over three years since the geek-centric sitcom ended its run. Since then, the main cast members have moved on and ventured out of the sitcom landscape. This includes Cuoco who starred in and produced the critically acclaimed film The stewardess — an HBO Max dark comedy that couldn’t be further from its former run. Besides that, the actress also does a few big screen projects.
With The stewardess season 2 now over, Cuoco moved on to focus on other projects. After a series of endeavors on the small screen, she is also actively establishing herself as a film actress. She is currently working on Roleplay, a thriller directed by Thomas Vincent and produced by Kaley Cuoco’s production company, Yes, Norman Productions. Cuoco will star in the picture opposite David Oyelowo. The pair will play a married couple and meet a mysterious stranger, played Billy Bob Thornton, who wreaks havoc on their relationship. Roleplay also has nothing to do with The Big Bang Theory, but it may accomplish something the sitcom couldn’t.
The Big Bang Theory ended with Penny pregnant, but in Roleplay Cuoco will play a mother for the first time in cinema. It should be remembered that after stagnating the Hofstadters The Big Bang Theory arc since their marriage, CBS introduced a conflict between the two during the show’s final season. After being together for so many years, they discovered that they had conflicting opinions about having children. Penny didn’t want to have them because she was afraid it would derail her career path and change her dynamic with her husband. Leonard (Johnny Galecki), meanwhile, wanted to start a family with her as soon as they met. In the end, Leonard pulled it off with a last-minute revelation that they got pregnant by accident. However, since it was already at the end of the show, The Big Bang Theory never had the chance to show how Penny would be as a mother. Now, Roleplay can give an idea of what it might look like.
How Penny Could Have Been a Mother in the Big Bang Theory
Unfortunately, The Big Bang Theory failed to properly address Penny’s pregnancy dilemma. Instead, the sitcom magically solved her and Leonard’s problem as if it were no big deal. While Penny looked happy to be pregnant, it’s possible that once the dust settled, she realized that it still wasn’t something she wanted. Meanwhile, Leonard might be oblivious to the whole thing, which would lead to more marital problems for them later. In the event, however, that having children is something that Penny ultimately enjoys, her relationship with Sheldon (Jim Parson) may serve as a good indication of what she could be like as a mother. The socially inept genius was essentially the quasi-son of the Hofstadters for years. Both were patient with his quirks, but Penny was the best at handling Sheldon at his worst. Penny de Cuoco knew how to be stern but loving at the same time for him, which could very well be what she would be as a mother too.
Whereas The Big Bang Theory has already ended, CBS can still give an update on how the Hofstadters are doing after the sitcom. The network could use Sheldon’s narration in Young Sheldon to share information about Penny, Leonard, and their child the same way he used it to reveal details about Sheldon’s family life with Amy (Mayim Bialik). Apart from that, however, Cuoco’s passage in Roleplay might be the closest thing to visualizing how Penny could have been a mother to her and her husband’s child.
