Suriya’s latest film ‘Jai Bhim’ directed by TJ Gnanavel has been at the heart of controversy in Tamil Nadu since its release date in November 2021. The film which was inspired by real events in the tribal community has been garnered with criticism positive and negative from moviegoers. .

“Jai Bhim” has now officially entered the 2022 Golden Globes as a nomination in the “Best Non-English Language Film” category. The film also surpassed the IMDb rating record of “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Godfather” and is now rated at 9.6.

The film is about a pregnant woman who seeks help from a lawyer Chandry after her husband goes missing in police custody. The film generated much controversy as the film portrays the preferences and treatment of caste by the police. Apparently, Vanniyar Sangam sent legal advice to Duriya and TJ Gnanavel’s offices regarding the portrayal of the particular community in the film.

The film was also a breakthrough in Suriya’s career as several actors, directors expressed their support for the actor and the film. Jai Bhim’s official team announced that the film has now been submitted for the Golden Globe Awards via a tweet.

The Golden Globe Awards are considered the second largest international award after the Oscar which is recognized by the film industry. “Jai Bhim” is one of two Tamil films nominated for the Golden Awards. The other film – titled “Koozhangal” is an independent film directed by PS Vinoth Raj.
