However, the health board says it is something that is monitored and reviewed on a daily basis.
It was confirmed on March 8 that essential visits would be introduced to all acute inpatient wards at Hairmyres Hospital, Monklands Hospital and General Wishaw.

This decision was due to pressure across all hospital sites and was already in place at Wishaw General prior to the extension to all acute inpatient services in Lanarkshire.
Essential visits allow for visiting patients who would be distressed or in pain from not seeing a family member with staff using their professional judgment to determine when visits should be allowed.
There have been no changes to visits to NHS Lanarkshire community hospitals, mental health/living disability inpatient units or maternity wards, but measures have been introduced to minimize risk.
Although there are no established plans to cut essential visits to short-term hospital wards, the position is being monitored and reviewed daily according to an NHS Lanarkshire spokesperson.
